Inspired by the personal battles and triumphs we live every day, Diabetes Outdoors was established to support the daily lives of individuals and families living with diabetes. By encouraging healthy lifestyles and building active communities, we enrich the quality of life with diabetes and lessen the impact of related complications.

In November 2008, Lars and Trevelyn Yahr founded Diabetes Outdoors. Their oldest son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of four. For twenty-five years, Lars has been an avid surfer, kayaker, SCUBA diver, mountain biker, and backcountry hiker. He wants to share these experiences with his family and other families living with diabetes.

Diabetes Outdoors combines an enthusiasm for the outdoors with a desire to inspire and motivate others living with diabetes. The programs prepare diabetics for outdoor adventure and create a positive atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration by encouraging all family members to get involved in fitness, exercise, and outdoor recreation.
